What is Pottermore?

Yesterday everyone was all a-buzz with the creation of a new website, Pottermore. Go ahead, click over there, I'll wait.

Okay, so now that you're back, you're just as confused as the rest of the population that has checked out the site. And you're wondering, BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

And now there is a youtube video with a countdown on JK Rowling's channel.

Here's what we know:

JK Rowling's press spokesperson has said that it will not be another book.

The Leaky Cauldron fansite has had a sneak preview, and they are calling it "breathtaking."

Here's the speculation of what Pottermore could be:
  • An announcement that the books will be available as e-books. (snooze)
  • Announcement of a new encyclopedia
  • A bigger and better website
  • Another amusement park
And then there's my favorite speculation. A MMORPG (massively multi-player online role playing game) based in Harry Potter's world. This would be something similar to World of Warcraft (which I love).

How much do I love this idea? So much. I would tell you all the reasons that there should be a Harry Potter MMORPG, but I think I'll just point you in the direction of this article at Massively. It says everything that I would have anyway.

So, what do you think that Pottermore is? What do you want it to be?

  1. The speculations you have listed sound very plausible. If it's not one of those, then I hope it's a JK Rowling world tour. I want my books signed! ;)

  3. I would love it to be the encyclopedia - I miss HP so much, new material would be great! I would also love it to be a MMORPG - how awesome what that be? If it's just ebooks though, i will be so disappointed...

  4. I don't think its gonna be primarily about the ebooks, though it might be secondary news. Encyclopedia, Social Network and MMORPG are my top guesses in that order.

Whatever it is, I am already SUPER excited about it :D

  5. I'm SO excited! I'm thinking either RPG or encyclopedia (both, please?). Also, I would die if it was that rumored documentary of the filming. Ahhhhh. I can't wait! This is so exciting for HP nerds!

  6. This is awesome! I'm seriously hoping for a MMORPG. It would be so great! Not to mention that the name "Pottermore" sounds like a MMORPG name to me.

Oh, I just read the other comments, and I am totally rooting for a world tour! Nice guess, Jenni Elyse!

  10. I'm not too excited for any of those things. Every other MMORPG that I have seen is just a WoW rip off, and WoW does most things better. A lot of people who switch MMORPGs usually go back to WoW.

  11. Not sure that it will be a MMOPRG. I would have strongly expected that to be announced at E3.

  16. We have been dying to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida. Why is it in Florida? Why can't it be in CA?

I haven't had a chance to really check out Pottermore, but we are huge HP fans and would love more background history on the characters, which is something they've said could happen. Woohoo!
