Blogger Confidential: What's in a Name?

Blogger Confidential
Have you ever been faced with an issue while reading or blogging and thought: I wonder what other bloggers think about this?  No matter what genre or audience you blog for, we all face the same problems.  Are you a publisher or author wondering what goes on in a blogger's (and by extension a reader's) head?

Blogger confidential is a series of 9 questions asked to 10 bloggers about the nitty gritty details of blogging. Everything from what prompts a blogger to pick up a book, to what happens when a book doesn't live up to its hype.  This series was inspired by Wastepaper Prose's Author Insight series.

Does the name of your blog hold any meaning or is it just a name? Would you change it if you could?

Chachic's Book Nook
"When I first signed up for Wordpress, I chose “chachic” as my username so I knew I had to include that in my blog’s name. A friend came up with “Chachic’s Book Nook” because it has a nice ring to it. Looking back, I kind of feel like I should have been more creative in naming my blog. If I could, I’d probably change it to Throwing Inkpots (name of my Tumblr and a reference to the Queen’s Thief series)." Chachic from Chachic's Book Nook

"I've always been fond of alliteration, and when the title Mindful Musings came to mind, it just felt right. I also like that it's a title that allows me to branch out and cover my thoughts on other subjects besides books, though books are by far the most prevalent topic I blog about. For now, I think my name suits my blog and I plan on keeping it!" Natalie from Mindful Musings

Forever Young Adult
"I thought long and hard about the name of the site before I launched it. I wanted it to represent myself and the other writers, and what better way to do that than to call ourselves Forever Young Adult? Because even though we are technically adults, we'll always be teenagers at heart." Sarah from Forever Young Adult

Book Soulmates
"Yes, it holds a lot of meaning. When we first met we instantly bonded over our love of books and deemed ourselves book soulmates. When we decided to start a book blog, it was just the logical choice for our name :)" Vanessa and Isalys from Book Soulmates

"Ha, it's what I feel about good YA books. They are bliss indeed." Sabrina at YA Bliss

"It does. Being that I'm both a YA review blog and a fan site of Cassandra Clare, I wanted to have something that reflected Cassie's books. I took Mundie from City of Bones, and since I'm a mom I put the two together. Though it wasn't with out talking to some friends about different names, but nothing stuck other than Mundie Moms. There was a few times in the beginning I wondered if I should just got with Mundies, but I liked how Mundie Moms sounded." Katie from Mundie Moms

The Reading Fever
"I love my blog name, and would never change it. The Reading Fever is my made up medical term for all the symptoms one gets from reading a great book: loss of sleep, increased heart rate, inability to function, delirious fantasizing, talking to fictional characters, loosened grip of reality, sudden urge to cry in frustration, crying of any sort, etc..." Penelope from The Reading Fever

Bites
"Absolutely and never in a million years. The name "Bites" is the evolutionary brain child of my own review style that I started developing on a different blog at least a couple years before starting Bites. My tagline, "Chomping on books and spitting out reviews," is pretty self-explanatory. I'm pretty sure there was an analogy to a rabid Doberman Pinscher in there at some point and I'm almost positive it's still nominally accurate." Donna from Bites

Sash and Em
"Well, it's our names so it does have some special meaning. We wouldn't change it for the world! :)" Sash and Em from Sash and Em a Tale of Two Bookies

Parajunkee
"It was such a random choice, I guess I lucked out on it. I was always fascinated with paranormal type fiction, hence the para - and the junkee. Double ee to make it different, even though there really isn't a parajunkie. I wouldn't change it for the world." Rachel from Parajunkee

  1. Yes. I'm not good at naming stuff, and my blog name was kinda the first thing that came to mind because it is what I wanted my blog to be. I came up with Bookaholic the other day, but I probably won't change it. I don't want to go through the hassle.

    1. There are TONS of blogs that have some variation of Bookaholic. So, it's probably not worth it anyway.

  2. I chose the name Books Live Forever, because when everything else is gone, there will always be books. Books are a wonderful escape from everything around you.

  3. I loved this post and seeing how everyone chose their blog names. It really is so personal. Mine derived from a nickname from High School and I use it for a lot of stuff.

  4. I chose Take Me Away because that's exactly what a good book does for me, take me away to other places. I treat them as an escape from the real world so that I can have a chance to live as someone else and travel all over the world just by turning the page! Great post!

  6. I love just seeing a little hint behind the scenes of everyone. A name is sometimes so simple but when you only have an internet presence it's everything. So few words convey so much meaning!

  7. Great post!

I went with Mission to Read because I felt it was honest of my approach to books and unique. In the beginning, I kinda wanted to change it, but now no I wouldn't change it for the world!

There is so much meaning behind a name!

  8. Fun post - I always enjoy Blogging Confidential. It made me think about my own name, and though I had others I liked (I spent days brainstorming), Book Harbinger is just the one I preferred, and I think I'd stick with it.

  9. Fun and interesting post, once again! It's great to see the stories behind all these blogs' names!

I LOVE finding names and playing with words so, when I decided to start a book blog, I put a lot of thinking into it! I tried a lot of titles, until I thought about those books or series *coughDesperateHousewivescough* that use song titles or lyrics as names.

I'm an inconditional fan of The Beatles, so I played with many of their song titles, each time replacing one word with "Book". I ended up with quite a few which I liked, but it's The Book on the Hill that made it through (the original song being "The Fool on the Hill"). :) Almost three years later, I still love my blog's name and do not intend to change it!

What's in a name? A LOT of things!

  11. That was interesting to read! I always like to learn more about a blog. What does the name mean? Why and how did someone come up with it? I especially liked Bites with the original tagline! :D

My name comes from my obsession with Harry Potter :D Mel is short for my name (Melanie, but people tend to say it wrong, so I decided to name it Mel. And friends call me Mel all the time and I see other booklovers as some sort of friends :D)

and The daily Prophet is the newspaper in Harry Potter. I didn't want to copy that entirely, so I made my own 'newspaper' from it, by taking Prophecy :) and I don't know, it had a nice tone to it, haha.
