June is Audiobook Month

You guys, I am so ridiculously excited for audiobook month! In the last year, I have become a true audiobook addict. I explained some of the reasons that I love audiobooks in my post last month. But, honestly, I think that the heart of the matter is that the audiobook industry has evolved so much in the last few years. I think the production quality has improved, and with phones that also function as audio players, there isn't ever a reason to not have a book going.

Summer is a great time to get into audiobooks with all the road trips and beach trips. Sometimes reading a print book on the beach gives me a headache because of the glare from the sand on the sun. But audiobooks allow me to relax and have someone else read for me.

I've got a lot of great things planned for you this month to get you excited about audiobooks.

Free Audiobook Downloads

SYNC has a selection of audiobooks that are available for free downloads. They have published the schedule here (link). The free downloads will begin on June 14 with The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I'm particularly excited about Anna Dressed in Blood and Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

June is Audiobook Month Features and Giveaways

I'm teaming up with Page Turners Blog, Wastepaper Prose and Once Upon a Twilight to bring you some great features on the making and marketing of audiobooks, giveaways and audiobook reviews. To kick things off, check out the giveaway at the bottom of this post.

Narration Creation

For the month of June, I'm putting Blogger Confidential on hold to bring a little twist on the series. Instead of bloggers, I'll be interviewing a group of narrators. They will be asked a series of four questions, and each week I'll post their answers to a new question. The group of narrators are really outstanding, and I think you'll really love their unique perspective on recording the books that you love. The post introducing them will go live tomorrow.

  2. I have not heard any audiobooks *ducks* LOL!!

I've actually been wanting to get audio books by the History Channel. I love history and I've been thinking learning would be a fun way to pass the time I'm stuck in traffic. "Hello, my name is Isalys and I'm a nerd!" HAHA

    1. Do you commute Isalys? If you do, then audiobooks are a necessity. Seriously.

  3. We love audiobooks at our house! Lately, my 13-year-old prefers them to regular reading (he listens to them on the bus ride, while doing chores, etc.). I agree that they are so much more accessible now with the ability to put them on an iPod or iPhone -- especially with Bluetooth headphones! Can't wait for all the fun stuff coming!

    1. I wish that I could have listened to audiobooks on the bus when I was a kid. They have evolved so much from books on tape!

  7. Oh, I'm so excited! This year probably a third of my book consumption is audio (currently devouring Gilt by Katherine Longshore). I'm so glad that it's growing in popularity.

And thanks for posting that link to Sync! I'm poking around it now... I'm such an audible nut that I've never been on here, but it's looking good.

    1. Also, definitely get the Daughter of Smoke and Bone when it's free. My only regret about listening to it is it make it harder to write down the many, many quotable moments, but the narration is great.
