Abigail's Picture Book is an infrequent feature that I do when the mood strikes. Like last time, I have some of Abigail's current favorite books to share.
Dinosaur vs. The Potty
by: Bob Shea
I got a copy (or proof pages actually) of Dinosaur vs. Santa, but I'm saving that one for Christmas. I wanted to check out the rest of the series though, and the library had a copy of The Potty. Abigail loves to roar with the dinosaur, and I've got my fingers crossed that the Dino's enthusiasm for the potty will rub off onto her. I'll also give an honorable mention to I'm a Shark, also by Bob Shea since she's enjoying that one as well.
This is Not My Hat
by: Jon Klassen
I know, I featured another Jon Klassen book last time. But, honestly, this new book is just as funny as the last one, and the illustrations are AWESOME! Abigail calls this one the fishy book, and loves to spot the hat and the enormous fish. As an added bonus, the proof I got at BEA is signed to Abigail. If you liked the last hat book, you'll really enjoy this one. You may have a little bit of a wait though, because this one releases in October. You can pre-order it though! I have.
Zephyr Takes Flight
by: Steve Light
Abigail loves machines. Fire trucks, ambulances, garbage trucks, helicopters, and airplanes. So, I knew that this one was going to be hit. It's about a girl, Zephyr, who finds a hidden door to a place full of airplanes and all kinds of flying things. The illustrations are really lovely, and the story is charming. Also, there are flying pigs. This one will also be an October release.
Who Said Moo?
by: Harriet Ziefert and Simms Taback
I picked this one up for a steal at a yard sale. Abigail really loves the flaps and making the animal sounds. If you have little kids that like to rip off the flaps, this may be one you want to keep up. Abigail gets in enormous trouble for ripping books, and so far it hasn't been a problem. The story is simple and repetitive, so it's good for a younger reader. The illustrations are quirky and cute.
Duckling Gets a Cookie?!
by: Mo Willems
And, another Mo Willems book. This one is also signed to Abigail, which she actually gets a kick out of. We've read a few of the Pigeon books, but not all. If you've read the others in the series, this one is similar with the Pigeon freaking out about not getting what he wants. Add in a little duckling who asks nicely and gets what he wants, and well, there is pandemonium.
As a bonus to this book, I have a video of Abigail doing a dramatic reading.

Oooh ... Abigail has picked some great books! I love the Jon Klassen books -- they're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHas she read the Scaredy Squirrel books? They're super fun!
She hasn't read the Scaredy Squirrel books. I'm going to add them to my list though!
DeleteHow cute is that duck!? Fab mini reviews. I plan on doing something like this when my daughter gets older.
ReplyDeleteThe duckling is super cute. Kids are so cute when they start getting interested in books.
DeleteI love the Dinosaur vs. books, so much fun for kids that age! My local library almost always read Dinosaur vs. the Library at story time, and the kids love it:)
ReplyDeleteI've put the library one on reserve at the library. I'm just waiting for it to come in!
DeleteI've never noticed this feature before on your blog but I love it! I am having a baby in a couple of months and don't know much about good picture books. I'm definitely going to have to go through some of your old posts to find some good choices for him. :)
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog! Consider me an official follower! :-)
