Review Policy

Emily's Reading Room Review Policy

At this time, I am not accepting review requests from authors. I will still accept pitches from publishers, or media companies. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you would like information about statistics and readership, please see my Advertising Policy. My blog is voluntary; however, I spend at least 10-15 hours per week on content for my blog. This is not including reading time.

I’m more than happy to accept review copies and catalogs from authors and publishers and participate in blog tours and publish guest posts and/or interviews.

To get an idea of the types of reviews I write and what you may end up receiving from me check out my review sections by title or author.

What do I like to read? My area of specialty is Young Adult and Juvenile Fiction. I enjoy fantasy, science fiction, post-apocalyptic, historical, dystopia and pretty much anything that falls in the YA category. I read a limited amount of non-fiction as well. To get a good idea of my taste in books, I also suggest checking out my goodreads account.

What do I not like to read? I don't read erotica, thrillers, mystery (except those that fall under the YA category) or poetry. I won't read books that are overly-sexual or contain unusual amounts of vulgar language.

What book formats do I accept? I prefer finished copies of novels. I like to donate my finished copies to my very small and needy library when I'm finished with them. However, advanced review copies are accepted as well. I do not accept self published books. I will accept e-books on a case by case basis.

What can you expect from me. My acceptance of a review copy does not guarantee that I will write a review. I write reviews that I feel are honest and will help my readers select quality books for their reading time. However, I do not write overly-negative reviews. If I feel that a book deserves less than 3 stars on my rating system I will not post it on my blog, but will post it on my Goodreads account. I always include book cover, link to purchase, synopsis, and my personal thoughts about the book in each review. I also provide an overview of the language, sexuality, alcohol and drug related content and violence. I don’t double post my books I received for review or my guest posts, meaning the review will be on the front page all day. If the book is on Goodreads, I will post a review, as well as on Amazon.com.

When will I review a book? If the book is an ARC, I will try to review the book in the month surrounding its release date, and definitely before the release date. If you have a specific date in mind that you would like to see a review run, please let me know. However, if no review date is agreed on, I will run the review at any time.

Compensation. I do not receive or accept monetary compensation for reviews I write. I am willing to consider other advertisement offers not related to a review.

Guest Posts/Author Interviews. I will do guest posts or interviews. Interviews are acceptable as long as I have read the book previously and have an adequate amount of time to prepare questions. I am willing to consider all offers for guest posts, especially if it is an author whose work I particularly admire. In each guest post I will include links to the author's website, published works on Amazon, link to publisher, and include a picture of the author. Please contact me if you are interested in doing a guest post.
